Informal Letter Format in English

In this post, we will give you information about the informal letter, how to write it and when it is useful. Informal letters are also known as unprofessional letters or casual letters.

Informal Letter

Informal letter writing is used in the place of personal communication. We all need to write a letter to someone at a certain point in our life. Also, we have to understand the meaning and also the importance of letter writing.

To know the importance of the informal letter and write a correct letter pattern, we have to know about the letter types according to their formats.

Firstly, we have to start the letter with an opening, usually in “Dear XYZ,” in an informal letter, and an introductory sentence explaining the purpose of writing the letter below the greeting. In the body of the letter, you can elaborate on the purpose of writing the letter and provide more details.

Types of Informal Letter writing:

  • Invitation letter to a ceremony, birthday.
  • Calling letter to friend for trip/holiday.
  • Asking for the well-being of someone.
  • Asking for help from someone through a letter.
  • Congratulating letter for someone’s success or achievement
  • Marriage invitation letter.
  • Apology letter to friend or someone.
  • Informative letter about someone’s demise in family or friends.

Format of the Informal Letter

There is no particular format in the informal letter that we have to write in the formal letters. We can write the letter casually with or without applying the format sequence in informal letter writing. But if we use the format of informal letters while writing the informal letters, the letter looks good, and it will also have a positive impact on the reader’s mind.

  • Sender’s Address.
  • Date of writing a letter.
  • Salutation.
  • Introduction.
  • Main body.
  • Closing of the letter.
  • Signature of the sender.

Sender’s Address:

You have to write your address (sender’s address) whenever you write an informal letter to your friend, family members, or anyone. This has to be written because if the receiver wants to reply to your letter, they’ll write a letter and send it back to that address you mentioned.

Date of writing a letter:

Below the address point, you have to write the actual date of writing a letter to inform the receiver when the letter has been written. Try to write the date in an expanded form.

Salutation (Greeting):

You can write the salutation in a casual or personal manner like Dear mom/friend/bestie/brother / Sister, etc., accordingly. If you are writing a letter to a person with the same age as ours, you can also write their name as well. If the receiver is older than you, you have to show respect to them.

Introduction:

After the salutation, you have to start the actual letter. But before writing the reason for the letter, you have to begin with the introduction of the receiver side and their wellness. This will impact a good impression of your letter.

Main body:

After the introduction, the letter’s main body begins, which includes the reason behind the letter’s writing. If you are writing a letter to your friend or person of the same age, you can write randomly or casually, but in the case of older ones, you must respect them in the letter pattern. Try to complete the body of the letter as short as you can. Avoid writing unnecessary things in the letter.

Closing of the letter

At last, we have to write a closing letter so that we can put our letter to an end with a short summary. Write some excellent and effective words when saying goodbye to the reader.

Signature of the sender:

At last, make an end of the letter with your signature.

For example, Lots of love, Best wishes, Kind regards, Warm regards, etc.

Dear Sanket,
How are you, my dear friend? How about your family members? I hope you guys are all well. I am also good here with your blessings.

I was transferred to the new official site in Hyderabad and moved here last week. The new staff members are also good in behavior, and they never make me feel that I am alone. Friend, I want to purchase a car for my official work, and I want some financial help from you. I arranged some money by myself and some borrowed from my colleagues, but they are insufficient, so I am requesting you to help me as per your side.

I am looking for your reply, and positive feedback from you and I assure you that I will pay you as I get my annual profit which I get after 3 months.

Until then, help me as possible and take care of yourself and your family.

With love,
Ashish Chand.
